About the Artist

Born and raised in northern Minnesota, Sandy loved the vibrant summer and stark winter colors surrounding her. She began her painting career in early childhood painting any unadorned surfaces available: sidewalks, walls and even her neighbor's prized pet duck! (The duck was not injured.)

As true of many fledgling artists, this artist's fervor was almost squelched by neighbors and parental disapproval. Sandy persisted and pursued an art major at the University of Minnesota, Duluth. Sandy wanted more. She desired to actually see and experience these places she saw through works of art. She joined the "friendly skies" of United Airlines to further expand her first-hand knowledge and artistic wonder about other cities and countries.

After traveling she married and settled in South Carolina. While raising a family, Sandy's sense of wonder and adventure lead her to pursue a career as a licensed psychotherapist. (She still maintains an active private practice.) At the same time, she decided to paint in earnest and studied under national known Carrie Brown or Greenville, South Carolina and later with Karen Killian of Tryon, North Carolina.

Now Sandy and her husband live both in Greenville, South Carolina and Waynesville, North Carolina close to the Great Smoky Mountains. Through time and immense life experiences, Sandy has matured into an accomplished artist.  Over the last fifteen years, she has participated in classes and workshops with many well-known impressionist-inspired artists including Derrick Penick.

Sandy attributes her artistic advancement of the last ten years to her intensive studies with internationally acclaimed painter Jenny Buckner who invited Sandy to paint and exhibit alongside her in the Buckner Gallery of Waynesville, North Carolina.

Sandy's work invites you to enjoy the immense raw beauty of the Smoky Mountains in her mountain scapes and flower studies and the almost human love emanating from pet portraits that many people have commissioned her to paint. She enjoys sharing her passion for painting with everyone and invites you to peruse her website: sandygreenart.com and contact her with any questions or requests.
